Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton sentenced a man, who admitted to robbing a woman at knife-point, to two years imprisonment when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
According to the facts of the case on Wednesday, Paul Richards stuck-up and robbed Sydney Henry of her purse valued $4,500.
The prosecution told the court that Henry and her brother were walking north along Longden Street heading to the East Coast bus park. The woman was wearing her shoulder bag slung around her arm when Richards accosted her from behind and held onto it. Henry turned around and saw that the man had a knife in his hand.
The woman struggled with Richards and while trying to pull the bag from his grip, cut her finger. Richards then ran off with the bag with Henry and her brother in hot pursuit. Henry’s brother managed to hold onto Richards as he attempted to climb over a gate. He was later handed over to the police.
The magistrate asked Richards if he wished to say anything in his defence but the man declined.
