Here is yet another case for the Guyana National Bureau of Standards. Many of the energy saving bulbs sold around the place are no good and costing consumers. While the encouraged use of these bulbs is intended to reduce consumption of energy (electricity), lessening the cost on consumers, they are in fact creating problems for many. People are complaining about the poor quality of many of these bulbs; they get dim very fast and after two or three power outages some are done for. One that has the name Morslan has given many problems.
It was observed that the first set that was shared out in Linden which came from Cuba appear brighter and more durable, a better quality. It is the duty of the GNBS to guide, inform and protect consumers by intense scrutiny of imported products – especially electrical/mechanical items. Very few consumers pay attention to or understand the fine writing, e.g. – “suitable to environmental temperature: – 5degrees C to 40 degrees C”
