Dear Editor,
President Bharrat Jagdeo has described the deterioration of the 30-year-old Demerara Harbour Bridge as “unbelievable, almost criminal”. It is disturbing that ordinary people had to tell the President of the disrepair. Secondly, how is it possible that no minister or other officials did not do so themselves. Who was responsible for contracting and supervising the repairs? Finally, will the President fire or take legal action against the management, contractors and Ministers responsible for the DHB condition? Time for the President to stop complaining and act forcefully against corruption and incompetence wherever he finds it. He needs to look at other areas and projects being sabotaged by underlings and others. It is not almost criminal, it is criminal.
Yours faithfully,
