Tony Ramnanan hit the first century, an entertaining 162, in the West Berbice Cricket Association (WBCA)/ Regency Suites/Buddy’s International Hotel sponsored under-23 cricket competition which got underway last weekend.
Playing at the D’Edward ground, Ramnanan struck 16 fours and 10 sixes for D’ Edward ‘A’ who rattled up a massive 384-5 from their 35 overs, and in response their opponents Sundown Cricket Club were bowled out for a paltry 45 from 12.2 overs against the bowling of Marcus France (5-20) and Keon Jahawir (2-1) bowling for D’ Edward ‘A’.
At Lovely Lass ground, Achievers Cricket Club defeated Union Sports Club by 80 runs in their encounter, thanks to national under-19 fast bowler Keyron Fraser who took 4-15 from eight overs.
Batting first, Achievers scored 181-5 with Colin Duke scoring an unbeaten 58 whilst Travis Perry (24) and Sherwin Webster (20) offered support to Duke. At their turn at the crease, Union were bowled out for 101 from 32 overs, with only Ranjie Bell who made 38 being the lone batsman to resist the efforts of Fraser.
Travis Perry (3-22) and Asif Khan (2-21) offered valuable support to Fraser.
The competition will continues this weekend with second round matches.
