A taxi driver managed to escape unhurt from the trunk of his car where he had been forced at gunpoint by his three passengers on Tuesday night.
The man, Dwayne Hall, managed to flee but the trio made off with his car, cash and cellular phones.
The police are investigating the robbery under arms which occurred around 11:20 pm at Busbee Dam, Craig Village, East Bank Demerara (EBD), during which Hall was attacked and robbed by three men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
Investigations revealed that the taxi driver picked up the men in North Ruimveldt to go to Craig where he was held at gunpoint and shoved into the trunk of the vehicle. The perpetrators then drove away with the vehicle. Hall managed to escape sometime later in the vicinity of Friendship, EBD.
The men fled with the motor vehicle which is a silver grey AT 192 Toyota Carina with registration number PJJ 4736, four cell phones and $4,500 cash.
This follows the carjacking of another taxi under similar circumstances and the same group may have been responsible for both incidents.
On Monday night, Safraz Baig was hired by three men from the Diamond Car Park to be taken farther into the village.
When they had reached their destination the passenger in the front seat pointed a gun at Baig while another held him in a head lock. He was later ordered into the trunk but when he refused he was gun butted.
He later entered the trunk and his “passengers” drove off. Baig was released in Albouystown.
His AT 212 Carina was later recovered minus some items which included the tape deck and alarm.
The number plate had also been changed.
