After consecutive days of track events South Ruimveldt Secondary School and East La Penitence Primary lead the secondary and primary school categories of the Guyana Teachers Union (GTU) organized South District, Champion of Champions meet at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary.
The primary schools contested their track events on Wednesday while the secondary schools were in action yesterday.
Of the 13 primary schools participating East La Penitence is in the lead with 148 points ahead of West Ruimveldt, St Pius and South Ruimveldt Primary Schools with 134, 132 and 118 points respectively.
The other nine schools have not entered triple figures, Enterprise stands fifth with 80 points while Tucville (55), Ketley (49), Thomas Moore (42), St. Stephen’s (30), Pinnacle (27), Smith’s (25), Nehemiah Comprehensive (18) and St. Sidwell’s (13) trail the top four schools.
After the conclusion of the senior athletes’ day of track events South Ruimveldt Secondary has a four and seven-point lead on North Ruimveldt and Charlestown who are on 165 and 162 points respectively.
Dolphin secondary is fourth with 159 points while Tucville and Lodge Secondary Schools are fifth and sixth with 133 and 131 points respectively.
East Ruimveldt (112), Freeburg Secondary (97), Central Secondary (88), Carmel (68), David Rose (41), Pinnacle and Kuru Kuru are tied on 13 points while Leslyn Academy (8) occupies the bottom rung of the leader board for the secondary school division.
Yesterday some outstanding performances were displayed in the senior division with South Ruimveldt’s Kevin Bailey winning the male U-20 200, 400 and 800m races.
He also tied East Ruimveldt’s fiery Timothy Doris’s time in the male 100m with a time of 11.1s although the two competed in different 100m heats.
Dolphins’ Tiffany Carter won the female 100, 200 and 400m races while Janella Jonas landed victories in the female U-20 800, 1500 and 3000m events.
The field events for the South District Champion of Chmpions meet will take place on October 23 and 24. The most likely venue will be the GTU Hall on Woolford Avenue.
