A 12-year-old girl of Rosignol, West Berbice was found hanging in her bedroom around 2 pm on Thursday and relatives are still trying to figure out what may have caused the tragedy.
Sharmilla Muneshwar, a first form student of the Rosignol Primary School Secondary department used a shawl to take her own life. Her mother, Rajkumarie called `Babsie’ said her daughter had no problems with anyone, while a sister told this newspaper “the girl went good, good whole day.”
Muneshwar told her mother she was going to “pack up the bedroom.” After a while the mother sent another daughter to call her to help with other chores.
There was no response and when the sister tried to open the door she found that it was locked. She then decided to climb and look over into the bedroom and saw a shawl belonging to Muneshwar tied over the beam.
Upon closer inspection the sister saw that the girl’s neck was wrapped in the shawl and she raised an alarm. Rajkumarie said she immediately contacted the Blairmont Police Station and when the officers opened the door the girl was on her knees and she appeared to be dead.
Muneshwar, the third of four siblings had not attended school for a few days because of school sports.
Rajkumarie fondly recalls that her daughter loved to dance. She said the girl would take the very shawl that she used to hang herself to dance and entertain them in the home.
