Anand and Kramnik face off in world championship
Here is the first game of the World Champion-ship match between defending champion Vishy Anand and Vladimir Kramnik that was played on Wednesday. Anand pressed for a win with the White pieces, but developed some time trouble, and therefore accepted his opponent’s offer of a draw.
The World Championship is currently being played in Bonn, Germany; a 12-game match with a schedule from October 14—November 2. The match is being played under classical time controls as follows:
Two hours per player for the first 40 moves, followed by one hour per player for the next 20 moves and finally, fifteen minutes per player for the rest of the game. Players are also given an additional 30 seconds per move starting from move 61. The prize fund for the match is US$2.35 million and would be split equally between the players. Germany’s Finance Minister Peer Steinbruck is the patron of the match.
