It was a great day for the Guyanese athletes competing in this year’s South American 10k race as Guyana’s Cleveland Forde, fresh of winning the Antiguan 10k, claimed first place while top female distance athlete Alika Morgan won the female category when the event was run off in Suriname on Saturday.
Forde finished the race in a time of 31:38s while Morgan, who won her first South American 10K race, ran 38:19s.
The other Guyanese who took part also held their own.
Lionel D’ Andrade and Kelvin Johnson, who have been in good form this season, finished third and fourth respectively.
Now the athletes will focus on winning the second and final leg which will be run here next Sunday.
The event will be even harder since more athletes from around the Caribbean are expected to converge in Guyana for the show down. (Rawle Toney)
