A soggy outfield caused by heavy rains the previous day prevented any play in the final of the Berbice zone of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Neal and Massy sponsored 40-overs-aside nationwide first division competition at the Rose Hall Canje ground on Sunday.
After several inspections by umpires Dhieranidranauth Somwaru and Clemente Brusche, play was finally called off in the match between Young Warriors and Bermine Community Centre cricket clubs respectively at 13:30hrs.
In an invited comment, both Somwaru and Brusche told Stabroek Sport that the option of playing the game, which would have been a reduced one, was offered to the teams and even though Young Warriors did indicate that they were willing to play, their opponents declined to play a game of such a stature under the conditions.
Former president of the Berbice Cricket Board of Control (BCBC) Malcolm Peters and present secretary of the BCBC Angela Haniff told Stabroek Sport that the competitions committee of the BCBC would be meeting shortly to decide on a new date to have the match replayed.
Bermine had earlier created a major upset over Albion in their semi-final clash to reach the finals, while Young Warriors had to call on all resources to overcome Port Mourant in their semi-final clash at the Albion Community Centre ground last Saturday to earn the right to play Bermine in the final.
The winner will be crowned the Berbice champions while at the same time advance to the national semi-finals where they will join Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and Mavericks Cricket Club from Demerara along with the Essequibo zone winner.
