Two men who ransacked a Corentyne house yesterday and escaped with cash and jewellery shortly after confronting a housewife with a cutlass were arrested by police with the help of villagers.
According to a police release around 10:30 am Deborah Raghubar, a 20-year-old housewife was in her home at Rosehall, Corentyne, when she was confronted by two men, one of whom was armed with a cutlass.
The men held her up and proceeded to ransack the home before escaping with $30,000, US$70, a quantity of jewellery and a cell phone. Raghubar who was tied up by the men managed to free herself and the matter was promptly reported to the police.
With assistance from some public-spirited members of the community and acting on information received, the release said the ranks were able to arrest the two perpetrators in the backdam area. Some of the jewellery and the cell phone were recovered and the two men were positively identified by the victim.
They are in police custody and will be charged shortly.
