A Guyana Defence Force Private has received a citation for his honesty and integrity after he discovered and returned to the GDF an army weapon which had been issued to Captain Ansel Semple who was killed in a recent road accident.
Private Marvin Slowe of the Infor-mation Technology Department, the citation awardee, was in the vicinity of the accident last Friday on Aubrey Barker Street, South Ruimveldt when Captain Semple lost control of his motorcycle and crashed head on into the path of an oncoming vehicle after being clipped from behind by a yet unidentified vehicle, a GDF release said.
Slowe was among several persons who sought to render assistance to Semple. The Private recovered and secured the M35 Browning pistol which had pitched a short distance from Semple’s body and immediately returned it to Base Camp Ayanganna and promptly handed it over to the relevant authority.
