Blairmont Community Centre’s Daniel Bourne grabbed 5-17 to not only steal the spotlight, but also steer his team to a comfortable 10 wicket victory over Sun Down when action in the West Berbice Cricket Association (WBCA)/ Regency Suites/ Buddy’s Hotel sponsored Under-23 second division competition was played last weekend.
Bourne’s effort along with worthy support from Brandon Bess (2-7), helped bowled out Sun Down for a meagre 33 to which Blairmont replied with 35 without loss to complete the victory.
At Lovely Lass, Achievers defeated Undertakers by 305 runs in a game where the Undertakers batsmen refused to take the crease.
Achievers batted first and scored 326-9 from their 50 overs, with Raffell Estrado (55), Travis Perry (49), Colin Duke (41), Jermaine Nicholson (29) and Travis Nedd 27 being the principle scorers.
R. Persaud took 3-66 and Kamal Persaud (3-48) bowling for Undertakers, who were then set back by the pace of Duke (3-13) and Dillon Yearwood (3-7) to be shakily placed on 21-6, at which point the remaining batsmen refused to take the crease, due to the pace of the opposition bowlers.
In other matches, rain stopped play between Bush Lot and Bath, wherein Bush Lot batted first and scored 145-4 from their 45 overs, to which Bath were 30 without loss when the rain came.
At Seafield, Rainbow made 197 all out from 28 overs in their matchup against Union, with Darren Wade (52), Darren Downer who also made an unbeaten 52 and Odel Burnett 28 being the principle scorers against the bowling of G. Woodroffe, R. Isaacs and D. Sewcharran who all had two wickets each.
In reply, Union was struggling on 70-9 against the bowling of Burnett who had taken 3-14 when the heavens opened.
D’ Edward ‘A’ team received a walk over from Woodley Park Strikers who were a no show in their encounter.
