Match awarded to Skeldon Community Centre
Albion Community Centre (ACC) and its skipper Sewnarine Chattergoon have been fined by the Competitions Committee of the Berbice Cricket Board of Control.
The club has been slapped with a $10,000 fine after it was found guilty of conceding a cricket match played under the auspices of the BCBC.
The committee decided to fine the club following its refusal to accept an umpiring decision in a first round fixture of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/ Gafsons nation-wide 20/20 competition against Skeldon Community Centre at the Skeldon Community Centre ground last Saturday.
According to reports, ACC had appealed for a catch taken by national under-19 player Jonathan Foo on the midwicket boundary but the umpire overruled the appeal for a dismissal after some consultation with his colleague, and signalled six runs.
Chattergoon then led his team off the field in the rain-affected game with Skeldon, chasing a revised target of 41 from five overs, 23-1.
Apart from awarding the match to Skeldon Community Centre, the committee also inflicted a fine of $3,000 on Chattergoon for his role in the affair.
