Upsets were the order of the day when the Le Meridien Pegasus Lawn Tennis championships continued last Friday at the hotel’s courts.
The biggest upset occurred when Andre Erskine upstaged tournament favourite and number four seed Leyland Leacock in the round of 16 of the men’s Open singles.
Erskine was down to face over Rudy Grant for a place in the semi-finals of the men’s singles.
Number-one seed and Open singles champion Philip Squires moved on to the semi-finals with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Oswin Coggins.
In another Open men’s singles match Ezra Sue Ho moved into the quarter-finals with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Gary Myers.
In the men’s 35 and over singles quarter finals, Stephen Longe defeated Julian Mc Ewan 6-1, 6-2 to move into the semi-finals while Grant also moved into the semi-finals by ousting Berbician Mario Niamatali 4-6, 6-2, 6-0.
In the men’s 35 and over doubles, Don Singh and Omar Persaud came back after losing the first set 6-1 to take the next two sets 6-3, 6-2 against Berbicians Godfrey Lowden and Niamatali.
