The Guyana Islamic Forum said it hopes this year’s Diwali celebrations are observed with love and peace.
In a press release, the Guyana Islamic Forum for Education Peace and Religious Solidarity said the festival precedes man’s recorded history and is meant particularly for the enlightenment of the human soul.
The lighting of diyas on this occasion it said, was also done to guide Hindu God Ram as he journeyed back to his people.
In keeping with this, the forum said it is time for peoples of all faith to respect all religions and cultures thereby getting rid of the idea of religious superiority. It also extended wishes for celebrations to respect the sanctity of the occasion by refraining from consuming alcohol.
