The 2008 Le Meridien Lawn Tennis Championship continued on Sunday with matches at the hotel’s court in Kingston with Rudy Grant and Anthony Downes both moving into the semi-finals of the men’s Open singles following some comprehensive victories.
Downes, who entered the event seeded at number two, easily disposed of Jermey Miller 7-5, 6-1 while Grant, after dropping the first set, bounced back to defeat Andre Erskine 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
In the men’s Open doubles final, the pair of Godfrey Lowden and Philip Squires rebounded from being down a set to Ezra Sue Ho and Leyland Leacock to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
The ladies’ Open quarter-final between Carol Humphrey and Grace Mc Calman saw Humphrey winning 6-4, 6-1.
Meanwhile the boys’ 12 and under title went to Allan Correia who defeated Dominic Fraser 9-0 while the 14 and under title was awarded to Seaden Longe after he defeated Gavin Lewis 6-4, 7-6.
In the girls’ 14 and under division, Shauna Gentle took the crown by defeating Aruna Ramrathan in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
In the boys’ 18 and under singles semi-final, Downes brushed aside Deion Blackmore 6-1, 6-0 and Miller defeated Jonathan Antczak 6-2, 6-3.
