The number one seeded player in the women’s draw of the Open singles of the 2008 Le Meridien Pegasus-sponsored lawn tennis competition Shelly Ramdyhan stormed into the final with a 6-0, 6-1 whipping of Aruna Ramrattan on Monday evening at the hotel’s courts.
However Ramdyhan was upstaged by her 10-year-old daughter, Nicola, who carted off the 12 years and under title with a 9/3 whipping of Jamalle Homer.
In a match that had its own intrigue, Rudy Grant got the better of Don Singh in a semi-final match of the men’s O35 singles after Singh retired with Grant leading 6-4, 2-0.
Stephen Longe continued to roll onwards by beating Victor Da Silva 6-2, 6-1 in a semi-final encounter of the men’s O45 singles event.
And, in a match of the men’s 45 years and over category harry Panday got the better of Albert Madramootoo 6-4, 6-7, 7-6.
The competition continues today with Grant opposing Panday in a men’s 45 years and over singles semi-final while Anthony Downes and Ezra Sue Ho will clash in a men’s Open singles semi-final.
Two other matches billed for this evening will see Gilbert Barckoy opposing Stephen Longe in a men’s o35 singles semi-final and Maxie Fox and Victor Da Silva against Don Singh and Omar Persaud in the men’s 35 and over doubles final.
