A Corriverton man endured an hour-long ordeal on Sunday night when he was bound and gagged by three men, two of whom were armed with guns, who beat him mercilessly and attempted to dig out his gold teeth before escaping with a quantity of items and cash.
Two suspects are in police custody and have been fingered in two other incidents, one of which is the gunpoint hold-up of those attending a religious function.
Royden Drepaul called `Curlie man’ of 40 AA Hazel Street Race Course, Corriverton Berbice sustained injuries to his face and abdomen. He was hospitalized for one night but he is still crying out for pains.
Drepaul is the adopted son of Dr. Herman Fraser who operates a clinic at his home but because he is currently attached to the Port Mourant Hospital, the man was left in charge of the property and would take appointments for the doctor.
Recounting the incident, he told Stabroek News yesterday that he was sitting in Clinic’s office around 10 pm watching a movie when a man appeared holding a gun.
He said that the gunman and two accomplices entered the building after climbing up a guava tree or a post that was within reach of the veranda. The men made their way down an inner staircase that led to the bottom flat.
Drepaul who is also the assistant manager at Persaud Funeral Home recalled that when the unmasked man entered he instructed him to put his hands in the air and “don’t turn around”.
He said that after he complied with the man’s request, two more men entered the office and a blind was torn into strips and used to gag his mouth and blindfold him.
His hands and feet were also bound and a cloth thrown over his head.
He recalled hearing the men tumbling upstairs looking for valuables. The man guarding him ransacked the clinic, destroying injections and scattering cotton wool.
When the men returned downstairs, Drepaul said that he was strapped to a dental chair with a sheet and was choked. It was at this point that the men attempted extract a gold tooth from his mouth.
“I couldn’t scream… they even tie me neck to the head piece of the dental chair and they choke me to kill me” he recounted.
After spending over an hour in the house, Drepaul said that the men escaped with a substantial amount of cash, a portable DVD player, a laptop, a small CD player, a designer belt, three cellular phones and foreign perfumes.
