Dear Editor,
Congratulation to The Indian Arrival Commemoration Committee of Bartica, Region #7 for holding a spectacular motorcade on Sunday, October 26, 2008 in Bartica.
I was holidaying over the weekend in Bartica and over the period of the last decade, last Sunday created history there, and should be placed very high on the map in terms of togetherness and creativity.
Bartica is known for its Regatta and Mash celebrations, but the Diwali Motorcade organized by the Indian Arrival Commemoration Committee of Bartica was one that could have run parallel to those in Georgetown, West Demerara, Essequibo Coast and/or any other Diwali motorcade which won prizes and recognition.
The mammoth crowds of thousands viewed more than 10 beautifully designed and heavily lighted vehicles, which were followed by another 50 vehicles. This shows that Bartica as an interior location has created history and needs to be recognized. In conversation with on lookers I gathered that this is the first time that Bartica has ever had such a tremendous turn-out and this Diwali motorcade was the first one ever.
I salute the executives and members of the Indian Arrival Commemoration Committee of Bartica for their efforts in beautifying the town and I am looking forward to more events of this magnitude.
Yours faithfully,
Mark Peters
