Dear Editor,
Don’t you think the Hindus in Guyana have been the punching bag for long enough? We have to endure mockery and venomous words from our other religious brothers and sisters. We have to put up with well-laid plans to convert us to the “right” religion. We have to go through the anguish of watching money hungry promoters attempt to defile our sacred festivals. We have to endure our prayer services being disrupted by hooligans hurling explosives into our mandirs, and abusing and threatening devout brethren peacefully going about the business of lighting their earthen lamps in the sanctity of their own yards.
Do we do that to others? Do we insult and defile other religious denominations like that year after year? Hindus are too peaceful, too meek. Sometimes a little standing up for yourselves never hurt.
Yours faithfully,
SC Persaud
