Maxie De Jonge played an entertaining innings of 53 for those gathered, before the clouds opened up and the rain had the final say, bringing a premature end to the third and final day’s play in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Presidents Cup competition between the Rohan Kanhai Strikers and the Lance Gibbs Tigers.
Playing at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) Queenstown ground, Strikers resumed on 322-9 in reply to the Tigers 242, with former national under-19 opener Shemroy Barrington on 136 and Brendon Bess 4, and were soon dismissed for 334.
Barrington managed to add four to his overnight score before he was caught by wicketkeeper Delroy Jacobs off Kellon Carmichael, leaving Bess unbeaten on 11 which was decorated with one six and a four.
Facing a deficit of 92, Tigers openers in De Jonge and national opening batsman Krishna Arjune (22*) looked set to erase the target with some pugnacious hitting, with De Jonge being the more aggressive of the two.
But the rain came and curtailed proceedings, leaving both teams who needed an outright victory to cart off the $200,000 first prize, settling for a draw.
The Leon Johnson led Clive Lloyd Supercats who had taken first innings points from both team in their encounter, took the first prize and the trophy to go with it, whilst the Strikers received $150,000 for their second place showing and the Tigers $100,000.
