Led by the experienced Homchand Pooran, Port Mourant created the first upset in the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC)/ Ansa Mc Al sponsored 10/10 competition when they defeated Young Warriors by five wickets at the Rose Hall Canje Welfare ground.
Batting first after losing the toss, Young Warriors struggled to 71 for 8 off their allotted 10 overs after losing the dangerous and hard hitting Farouk Hussain off the first ball of the match, caught on the mid- wicket boundary off pacer Yogindra Harrinarine.
Wahied Edwards who top scored with 24 (4×4), Richard Ramdeen 14 and R. Kassim 12 all contributed as Young Warriors recuperated to score 71-8 from their 10 overs although the Port Mourant bowlers never allowed them to score freely.
Off spinner Rajendra Bojo took (4-7) while Harrinarine grabbed (2-18) for Port Mourant who lost opener Devendra Takurdeen (00) who was bowled by fast bowler D. Ramoutar in the second over at 6 for 1.
But Pooran called on his vast experience to guide his team to victory, scoring 25 (3×4) as they reached 72 for 5 off 9.5 over. Monshin Perkhan offered support with 20 while Rajiv Ivan made 15.
Bowling for the Young Warriors, Hussein took 3 for 10, but it was not good enough to prevent Port Mourant from grabbing the victory and a place in the semi-finals where they would clash with Albion Sports Club for a chance to play Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar at the Area ‘H’ ground in the final on Sunday, November 9.
