One of the injured persons was 22-year-old Marlon Carter who was a back-seat passenger in the minibus at the time the accident occurred. According to him, the bus turned onto D’Urban Street from High Street and was proceeding at a moderate speed. Carter said that as the bus was crossing Smyth Street, the car, which was proceeding north along Smyth Street, suddenly appeared and collided with it.

Carter said he lost consciousness after the collision and all he could remember was being picked up from the road to be taken to the hospital.

When Stabroek News spoke to the young man, he was nursing head and back injuries.
Stabroek News was told that the bus driver lost control of the bus after the collision and it toppled on its side. Both vehicles were badly damaged.

Bent Street resident Sharon Schewers confirmed Carter’s account of the accident but could not add further details because she too lost consciousness after the impact. She was sitting in the seat behind the driver. She, too, blamed the driver of the car for the accident, since, according to her, the driver was speeding. At the time, this newspaper spoke to Schewers, she was complaining of an injury to her shoulder.

Meanwhile, persons involved in the accident complained that some of their belongings were stolen. This newspaper was told that $10,000 was stolen from a female passenger on the minibus, while others had their jewellery and cellular phones taken from them.
