Dear Editor,
The purpose of this letter is to ask all Guyanese to voice their support for the establishment of parks/playfields in all communities in the country. Parks/playfields are important as they are used by families, friends, groups and almost everyone to spend some part of their leisure time in.
These parks and fields can get young people doing constructive activities rather than mingling near bars or liming aimlessly on the roadside. Young and old alike can play sports, organize picnics, have family days or use the parks/playfields as places where school related activities can be organized, among other things.
This is why I feel there should be a park in every community.
I believe that existing parks/playfield should be maintained or redeveloped as parks/playfield and I am sure that it would not cost the authorities much money to do so. The National Park and other parks are examples. With just a little effort from each individual of a community as well as the government, the Parks can be beautiful sceneries and places of relaxation.
The government must also educate and encourage the Guyanese citizens to keep these places clean.
People who have a field or park neighbouring their community should form a group to maintain them by doing such activities like cutting overgrown grass and clearing the drains.
Yours faithfully,
Brendon Sachin Khan
