Mahaica Determinators, BV/Triumph ousted
The first round of the Fruta Conquerors (FC) organised Namilco Football Festival knockout competition was completed on Saturday evening at the Tucville Playfield with Mahaica Determinators and BV/Triumph being the last teams to be eliminated.
Mahaica Determinators showed little determination in their match against Alpha United and went under 0-2 in the curtain raiser while Sunburst Camptown eased its way past BV/Triumph 1 – 0.
Sunburst Camptown will now meet with Bakewell Top XX while Alpha United will clash with Buxton Stars in quarterfinal matches set for Wednesday.
Fruta Conquerors and Pele were down to battle GFC and Western Tigers respectively last evening in the other two quarterfinal matches.
In the feature match on Saturday BV/Triumph had numerous attempts at the goal but they were unable to find the back of the net throughout the 90 minutes duration of the game.
However, Camptown capitalized on one of their chances scoring in the 63rd minute after Richie Richards received a cross from the right flank outside the 18- yard box and guided the ball into the back-left corner of the net.
Alpha United made their way merrily into the quarterfinal stage compliments of Elton Browne who recorded a double.
The kicking power of Browne proved too much to handle as both of his goals were scored from no less than eight yards outside the 18-yard box.
His success came as early as the ninth minute and he completed his double in the 27th minute.
