Former Chief Magistrate Juliet Holder-Allen and a few of her supporters staged a protest action in front of the Court of Appeal over the delay of the issuing of her benefits for the 18 years she served on the bench. Holder-Allen resigned from the bench on September 2 last after being sent on indefinite leave almost five years ago following allegations of misconduct. At that time, the former magistrate had said she and her former employers would have to discuss her benefits but so far there has been no discussions hence her protest action. Yesterday the former magistrate said she knows the Judicial Service Commission had no intention of preparing her record of service so that she could receive her retirement benefits. Holder-Allen said she drew that conclusion because of the terse note the commission rote her in response to her letter of withdrawal of service and the note was to effect that “from the 15th September 2008 you will no longer be a magistrate. Goodbye. There was no mention to me of the state or payment to me of my monetary benefits. There were no words of thanks for my services or regrets that it has ended or any such thing,” the former magistrate said. The placard she held by during yesterday’s protest read, “I Am Not Leaving Without my Record of Service Give It Up Carl [in reference to acting Chancellor Carl Singh].”
