PNCR Leader Robert Corbin in a congratulatory message yesterday to US President-elect Barack Obama on his historic victory indicated that the PNCR will be willing to work with the new US administration for a better Latin America and the Caribbean and a more peaceful world.
Expressing congratulations to President-elect Obama on his triumph at the US elections on November 4, the PNCR Leader noted that his party has had an association with the Democratic Party over the years and is convinced that Obama now has a mandate to tackle the problems facing the United States domestically and internationally.
Corbin declared that his party has taken note of the intention signalled in Obama’s political platform to start a new chapter of engagement with Latin America and the Caribbean, and is looking forward “to working with you in these terms for a better Latin America and the Caribbean and a more peaceful world.”
Corbin also stated that Obama’s victory represents a historic milestone for the USA in general and the African-American community in particular, and indeed provides evidence of the strength of the system of democracy in that country.
“Your victory has come at the end of a long and challenging campaign during which you displayed qualities of dignity, prudence and an abiding concern for the welfare and future of the American people,” Corbin asserted.
He observed also that Obama’s concern for the American people and his message of hope and reconciliation and the uniting of the American people and the need for change of direction, “resonated and stimulated the kind of democratic participation that has not been seen for a long time in the United States.”
