The death of Stabroek News Editor-in-Chief David de Caires will “create a void in the ranks of Media Managers in the Caribbean Community” the Caricom Secretariat says.
In a statement yesterday, the Secretariat saluted de Caires as an elder statesman who advocated “candid discourse between the Caribbean political directorates and the public through the intermediary of the media”.
According to the statement,” his legal training and orientation seemed to draw him inexorably towards a representative posture and role whenever he perceived a situation or development with the potential to constrain the work of the journalism fraternity. In this role he was well known and his intervention and counsel wifely sought and appreciated” the release added.
The Secretary-General and the staff of the CARICOM Secretariat extended sincere condolences to his wife Doreen, family and relatives.
