Guyana donates rice to Cuba

In an effort to provide relief to Cuba after the recent natural disasters which hit the country, Guyana has donated 150,000 tonnes of white milled rice.

The hurricanes which swept through Cuba caused severe damage. As a result, Guyana has chosen to provide some relief, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Elisabeth Harper said.

Six containers of rice were loaded and ready at the John Fernandes Wharf to be shipped to Cuba. The activity is being handled by the Guyana Rice Development Board, a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release said.

Pedro Artega, the Cuban Ambassador, was present during the packing yesterday and expressed gratitude on behalf of Cuba for Guyana’s support in their time of the need.
Cuba is now under threat from tropical storm Paloma.
