Stanford Superstars player Lennox Cush and fast bowler Esaun Crandon are out of this year’s regional limited overs competition which commences in Guyana on November 13.
Speaking to Stabroek Sport yesterday Cush, who was a sure bet to be in the Guyana team, told this newspaper that he has suffered a ruptured ligament in his left knee and has been advised by his doctors to rest for three weeks.
Crandon has also pulled out citing a foot injury which further depletes a Guyana side which will be missing Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Sewnarine Chattergoon and Leon Johnson.
Meanwhile, the third trial match to select the Guyana team to participate in the tournament ended yesterday with victory for Travis Dowlin’s side over Mahendra Nagamootoo’s side.
Dowlin’s side won the toss, decided to bat and were dismissed for 257 from 49.2 overs.
Dion Ferrier top scored with 65 which included three sixes and six fours while Dowlin supported with 54 which included two sixes and five fours.
Dowlin and Devon Clements (30) had earlier put on 73 for the fifth wicket after Dowlin’s XI had slumped to 40-4 losing the wickets of Shemroy Barrington, Orin Forde, Maxie De Jonge and Steven Jacobs cheaply.
Wicketkeeper Delbert Hicks scored 45 with four boundaries before he was run out.
Christopher Barnwell was the pick of the bowlers with 5-73 while Nagamootoo supported with 2-52.
In reply, Nagamootoo’s side was dismissed for 245 with Gajanand Singh stroking a boundary-studded 86 off 87 balls.
Singh brought up his 50 off 24 balls but slowed down after the dismissal of Rajendra Chandrika who was lbw to Seon Daniels for 22.
Derwin Christian scored 18 and Vishaul Singh 16 and Ryan Hercules lived up to his name in smiting two sixes in a cameo 23 but the innings ended with skipper Nagamootoo being dismissed for a duck.
Trevon Garraway captured 4-68, Jacobs 2-32, Ferrier 1-28 and Forde 1-9.
