Sunburst Camptown and Alpha United book places in semis
– finals to be decided tonight
The final days of the Fruta Conquerors organized Namilco Football Festival Knockout Tournament draws near and a new champion will be crowned.
This past Wednesday Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United and Sunburst Camptown joined the Fruta Conquerors and BK Int’l Western Tigers after eliminating the two Bakewell-sponsored teams at the Tucville playfield.
Sunburst Camptown sent Bakewell Top XX packing in a 1 – 0 affair while Alpha United swept Bakewell Buxton Stars 2 – 0 in the feature match of the double header.
Buxton Stars were outshone by arguably the best team in the country, Alpha. Although Buxton was expected to create another upset, Alpha clearly displayed who was the superior force in that encounter.
Alpha’s consistent striker Elton Browne and Anthony Abrams deposited two goals in their vault in the 41st and 72nd minutes respectively.
The East Coast team (BS) had a few attempts at goal but were not able to get any past the well-composed custodian.
The team out of Linden, Top XX, fought a hard fight against the Camptown team who endured the battle until the end to go home victorious.
The clash was driven into extra time after both teams could not manage to score against each other.
Finally a goal was scored and a winner was named as Camptown’s Dexter Mollyneaux found a 96th minute goal when he was directly in front of the goal in the 18-yard box banking on a terrific ball he received from his team mate.
Tonight at the Tucville playfield an exciting evening can be expected with both semi-finals to be contested. Western Tigers will oppose Fruta Conquerors in the curtain raiser which begins at 6:00pm then Alpha United will clash with Sunburst Camptown in the feature encounter at 8:00pm.
