The Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) cricketers benefited from home turf advantage to maul a hapless Guyana Defence Force (GDF) team in the Pepsi Cup, limited overs first division competition yesterday.
The match, reduced to 35 overs-a-side because of the late arrival of the GDF team saw the home team winning the toss and taking first strike and rattling up 320-6 in their allotted overs.
The GDF in reply were dismissed with four balls remaining for 198 to lose by 122 runs.
Opener Christopher Barnwell led the way with a swashbuckling innings of 86 from only 43 balls.
Barnwell blasted 10 fours and five sixes in his innings.
He received support from Jamaal Hinckson who scored 64 with six fours and two sixes while skipper Dennis `Bitter Man’ Squires scored 59 with six fours and four sixes from 28 balls.
GDF required to score almost nine runs an over were off to a fine start with openers Mark Haynes and Amos Ramhajan putting on a century partnership.
Haynes was dismissed for 36 which included a solitary six and four fours.
Rambhajan was eventually ninth out for a patient 81 which included seven fours and four sixes.
Squires picked up 4-18 while Barnwell grabbed 2-26.
