A pedestrian, a motorcyclist and a pedal cyclist were taken for treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital after they were involved in separate accidents yesterday. Up to press time all three were still receiving treatment for the injuries they suffered.
Fazil Hamid, 46, of 276 Eccles, East Bank Demerara was hit by motor car HB 4844 shortly before 3 pm on the Agricola Public Road. He was taken to the hospital by the vehicle that hit him. Meanwhile a man on his way to play in a domino competition never made it to the game as he was hit off his motor cycle on Norton Street, Lodge sometime around 4 pm. The man Desmond Mitchell, 51, called ‘Voltage’ of 104 Third Street, Agricola, East Bank Demerara was taken to the hospital in a state of unconsciousness. He received injuries to his head.
A fellow player in the domino team told Stabroek News that he was a few feet away when the accident occurred. The man said that he was riding his bicycle on Norton Street heading east. Mitchell passed him on his motor bike and recognised him. Upon recognizing his team mate the man pulled into the corner on the left hand side of the road. Voltage’s friend said that the vehicle which hit the man PDD 1788 passed him on his bicycle and swerved in hitting Mitchell.
Later in the evening thirteen-year-old Kelvin Marshall of 123 Regent Street, Bourda was hit by a vehicle belonging to the National Communications Network shortly after 7 pm. According to reports reaching Stabroek News the youth and another friend were riding bicycles along New Garden Street, when the accident occurred. Stabroek News understands that Marshall suffered serious head injuries and was taken for a CT scan at the Mercy hospital. Upon his return to the GPHC he was taken to the ICU.
Mitchell and Hamid were taken to the operating theatre for surgery.
