A man who allegedly assaulted a policeman was granted bail in the sum of $15,000 yesterday when he appeared before Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Patrick Thomas of Good Fortune, West Bank Demerara pleaded not guilty to the charges of assaulting a special constable and disorderly behaviour in public view.
According to reports, on November 12 on Water Street, police acting on information received went in search of Thomas and found him at Stabroek Market.
They questioned him about a matter and then informed him that they would conduct a search on his person. During the search, Thomas allegedly pushed the policeman’s hand away and made use of indecent language.
However, Thomas stated that he did not assault the policeman but “they assaulted me cause they drag me on de road by Fogarty’s.”
Magistrate Williams-Hatmin then entered a not guilty plea for Thomas.
The magistrate subsequently placed Thomas on $15,000 bail and ordered that he appear again in court on December 9.
