Guyana Water Inc (GWI) will host a special workshop for contractors next Tuesday with the purpose of informing them of GWI’s policies and equipping them with tools to help in their delivery of quality infrastructural work.
At a press briefing held yesterday, Chief Executive of GWI, Karan Singh said that the forum will better educate contractors about the requirements of GWI, as regards specific projects. Singh said the workshop is being held at a timely moment, when there has been an increase in the number of projects GWI has been undertaking, especially in the area of pipe-laying.
Singh added that at times, GWI has been guilty of compromising its standards and consequently a lot of substandard work has been done by contractors. Some of these contractors, Singh added, have been blacklisted by the water company. The Chief Executive added that the forum will also used as an avenue to emphasize the anti-fraud policy of GWI, since the organisation is keen on maintaining transparency in all its projects.
Head of Procurement Dhani Narine promised that the workshop will be very beneficial. He said the participants will be allowed interact with GWI officials and have their questions answered. He also said that the delegates who attend will be informed about how they can prepare their bids. Both he and Singh expressed hope that those who attend the workshop will play key roles in future projects that GWI will undertake.
This is the second such workshop being held by GWI. At the previous one, nearly 100 contractors reportedly attended. Tuesday’s workshop will be held at the Savannah Suite, Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel, and there is no cost attached. Starting time is 9 am.
