The `Reds’ Perreira Sports Foundation (RPSF) has made a donation towards the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) who will this weekend launch the Basil Butcher Trust Fund for cricketers in Berbice.
Troy Peters, Liaison Officer of the RPSF presented a cheque for $50,000 on behalf of the Foundation to David Burgess, honorary member of the RHTYSC at a simple ceremony last Wednesday in Georgetown.
Peters disclosed that the foundation was pleased to assist the club as it strove to promote the development of positive role models in the society.
Hilbert Foster, secretary and chief executive officer of the club expressed gratitude to the foundation for its timely assistance.
Foster said the donation will assist in the club’s drive to support young cricketers in Berbice.
The Basil Butcher Trust Fund, named for former Guyana and West Indies batsman Basil Butcher, who hails from Berbice, will be launched with two days of activities in the ancient county today and tomorrow.
Deryck Murray, the former Trinidad and Tobago and West Indies wicketkeeper and current President of the TT Cricket Board will be the keynote speaker at the launch billed for the RHTYSC Club House.
At the launch youth players will receive a financial grant to assist them to buy equipment while clubs in the region will receive balls to help in their development programme, Foster revealed.
