The Canadian Herbie Fund saved the life of four-year-old Guyanese Trisha Felix, the CityNews report stated last Friday.
Trisha, the Canadian report said, not too long ago suffered from a condition that had claimed the life of her older brother before she was born. Guyanese doctors had told the child’s mother, Sunita Felix, there was nothing they could do.
The CityNews report further stated that the child’s aunt, who resides in Canada, discovered the Herbie Fund – a charity that brings children from around the world to Toronto for life saving surgery – and soon after Trisha was flown there where doctors at the Hospital for Sick Children performed the operation that would save her life.
“I feel so lucky and blessed that the Herbie Fund has helped my child and she had life. Before she was sad, sickly. Today she runs,” Sunita told CityNews.
The fund was named after a young Brooklyn boy, Herbie Quinones, who was brought to Toronto in 1978 for a life saving operation at the same hospital. The charity has since helped hundreds of children from around the world.
