Dear Editor,
I have a house lot at Area B Lusignan (Grass Field) East Coast Demerara. I was advised after signing the agreement of sale by a member of staff at the Ministry of Housing that I could use the agreement of sale to acquire a loan from the bank. I signed for the transport in August 2008, and was told the same thing, so I proceeded to get all the necessary documents. When the bank called the ministry, they were told that they could not issue the assurance letter because the surveyor had not handed in his report as yet. I need to start building as early as possible. My landlord took off my water connection as well as the electricity because he thought that would be the best and easiest way to get me out of the house.
I would like to know when individual water will be given in Area B because there were standpipes which were causing problems and the water supply was discontinued. I was advised that some of the residents went to the Ministry of Housing and were told that each street had to pay thirteen thousand dollars before water would be restored for the standpipe. They refused. A tank of water is $3000 and we need immediate electricity; this is the same area that recently had a massacre.
Yours faithfully,
