Lights for Christmas! The three mobile generators rented by the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) to boost power supply during the Christmas season arrived in the country from Miami yesterday. The three 1.6 megawatts Caterpillar units will be used in Demerara and will be based at Sophia, GPL Assistant Public Relations Officer, Richard Francois said. The sets are expected to be set up by this weekend or early next week, he stated, adding that the necessary infrastructure to accommodate the units has been set up. The generators would contribute a total of 4.8MW to the grid. The units are being rented by the power company for two months at a cost of US$55,000 per unit, per month.
