The Theatre Guild yesterday came alive with a stunning dramatic presentation to deliver clearly the message of eradicating all forms of abuse against children.
The activity was held as the National Commission on the Rights of the Child (NCRC) commemorated the 19th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Speaking at the event, Coordinator of NCRC Shirley Ferguson made a desperate call for the involvement of all sections of society to join the fight against child abuse. Ferguson also stressed the importance of children being taught their rights, but quickly cautioned the students that along with their rights come responsibilities as well. “You must be able to take responsibility for your actions,” she emphasised.
Head of the NCRC Varshnie Singh, who was also present at the event, added that it is important for children to enjoy their childhood and to have a balanced curriculum as it is vital to their development. She too underscored to the students that they must be responsible for the actions they take.
The event saw the attendance of about 300 children from schools around the city.
