Three warehouse employees were each granted $30,000 bail for allegedly stealing fifteen bags of potatoes from their employer.
Mohammed Shameer Kassim, 39, of 372 Diamond Housing Scheme; Chatie Persaud, 47, of 52 Grove Squatting Area; and Narvin Rampersaud, 22, of Norton Street, Bagotstown, all East Bank Demerara addresses, pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny.

It is alleged that on November 22 at Lombard Street, Georgetown the men stole 15 bags of potatoes worth $30,000; property of Omkar Ramroop.
The men’s lawyers informed the court that their records were unblemished and they were not flight risks. Based on those points they made applications for bail to be granted in reasonable sums.
According to the prosecution, the potatoes were recovered from the defendants on the day in question. Ramroop, the owner of P. Ramroop and Sons had received information about such activities in his bond and as a result the police launched an undercover investigation. It was during this “sting” operation, the prosecution said, the men were caught in the act.
Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson granted bail in the sum of $30,000 to each accused. The matter was transferred to Court Two for January 15.
