The jointly sponsored Ministry of Education/National Sports Commission/Guyana Cricket Board/Guyana Teachers’ Union Secondary School Under-15, 40 overs–a-side cricket competition continued recently in Districts 5, 6 and 15.
Highlighting the latest matches played was the outstanding batting performance of opening batsman Jamal Henry who slammed 110 which included 21 fours to lead Tutorial Academy Secondary School to 289 for 7 in their 40 overs against New Amsterdam Secondary School who could have only responded with 175 all out in 33 overs, with Linden Austin top scoring with 73.
Leg-spinner Junior Jackson took 6-12 from 4.5 overs to help Manchester Secondary School bowl out Black Bush Secondary for 93 in the Central Corentyne Branch. However the Black Bush Secondary medium pacers Khemraj Paltu (4-15) and Gooran Singh (3-10) turned the tables on Manchester Secondary to bowl them out for 88 in reply.
After Rosignol Secondary were restricted to 107 by Fort Wellington Secondary, leg-spinner Derek Narine took 4-14 and along with medium pacer Akram Rahaman who took 3-11 combined to bowl out Fort Wellington for 33 in 10.1 overs in their response.
In scores from the matches played, at Rose Hall in Canje, Tutorial Academy Secondary School beat New Amsterdam Secondary School by 114 runs.
Tutorial Academy Secondary made 289 for 7 in 40 overs with Jamal Henry 110, Devendra Jainabi 33, Marlon Shepherd 33, Steffon Pilgrim 31*, Martin Weatherspoon 2 -36 Linden Austin 2-47, J. Hanif 2-61.
New Amsterdam Secondary got 175 in 33 overs. Linden Austin 73, Sudesh Dhanai 23, Marlon Shepherd 3 -26, Glendon De Cunha 2-12, Steffon Pilgrim 2-26.
At Mibicuri in Black Bush Polder, Black Bush Secondary School beat Manchester Secondary School by 5 runs.
Black Bush Secondary put up 93 in 30.5 overs. Lakeram Paltu 25, Khemraj Sirkissoon 20, Junior Jackman 6-12, Paul Tyndall 3-9. Manchester Secondary 88 in 29.2 overs with Paul Tyndall 25, Keith Hercules 21, Khemraj Paltu 4-15, Gooran Singh 3-10.
At No. 2 in West Berbice, Rosignol Secondary School beat Fort Wellington Secondary by 74 runs.
Rosignol Secondary made 107 in 25 overs with Shailendra Chandraram 21 as Satesh Gausham took 2-11 bowling for Fort Wellington Secondary who were routed for 33 in 10.1 overs with Derek Narine grabbing 4-14 and Akram Rahaman 3-11 to hand Rosignol Secondary a 74 runs victory.
At Rose Hall Town, the match between J.C Chandisingh Secondary School and Port Mourant Community High ended in a tie after Port Mourant Community High took first strike and scored 108 in 29.4 overs with Sharaz Ramcharra 17 against the bowling of Merron Williams (3- 11), Kandasammy Surujnarine (3- 15) and Shailendra Shameer 2-14.
In reply, J.C Chandisingh Secondary were bowled out for 108 from 29.5 overs with Shameer returning with the bat to score 23 and Karamchand Mahabali 21. Berbice Under-15 leg spinner Gudakesh Motie took 3-9 whilst Clifford Wong offered support with 3- 23.
At Port Mourant, Corentyne Comprehensive Secondary School beat Lower Corentyne Secondary School by 9 wickets.
Lower Corentyne Secondary were bowled out for 70 from 26.2 overs with Avinash Wajib taking 3-19 and Bouthnarine Persaud 2-6. In reply, Corentyne Comprehensive scored 72 for 1 in 12 overs, led by an unbeaten 38 from Verapen Permaul.
At Whim, Central Corentyne Secondary School beat Winifred Gaskin Memorial Secondary School by 13 runs.
Central Corentyne Secondary (CCS) made 113 in 35 overs with Videsh Lall 39, Kevin Paremloo 23, Neil Pike 4-18, Rajendra Dasrat 3-13. Winifred Gaskin Memorial 100 in 25.3 overs. Kevin Hardat 29*, Karamchand Ramnarine 4-5, Ganesh Sookhu 4- 23 and Joel Benn 2-7, being the principal wicket takers for CCS.
