The body that was found in a yard in Alberttown last week Sunday was not Canada-based 58-year-old Shirool Ali as relatives have since indicated that the woman contacted them on Wednesday and indicated that she is alive and well.
On Tuesday Stabroek News had reported that the body might have been Ali’s as relatives had stated that she was of unsound mind and was seen in an Alberttown yard about two weeks ago waiting to speak to a relative.
When the story of the discovery of a woman’s body was first published, a relative of Ali had left a comment on this newspaper’s website, asking for more information on the woman, since, according to her, Ali left for Guyana and is mentally ill. She said Ali had been looking for relatives to stay with but no one took her in because her condition. A reporter from this newspaper then made contact with the relative via email and she gave some more information on her sister.
The woman, identified as ‘Donna’ was found on November 17 in a yard in Fifth Street, Alberttown and was taken by an ambulance to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
However, this newspaper has since been informed that the body was that of a homeless woman and it has since been buried.
