Dear Editor,
As a child, so often my mom would mention that her pen-friend had written and sent pictures. Then one day with the massacre at Jonestown, her pen-friend later wrote saying, “Your country is killing my people.” My mother’s reply to her was, “Your people came and defaced my country.”
Those were the parting words of years of friendship − destroyed. It was a verbal war between Marilyn Kruger (American) and Stella Swan (Guyanese).
We all look for closure, and I hope that with the years the Kruger family − Marilyn, Jerry, Amy − have realized that the accusation laid against my mother and country was totally incorrect.
America, love from Guyana.
Yours faithfully,
F Vincent
