The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) said contrary to rumours it has no plans to deprive its staff of their November salaries rather it is verifying claims for overtime payments which will result in a three-day delay.
In a press release GWI said that its action is “not a direct ploy to disenfranchise employees” but it was done to correct major discrepancies found in the payroll as it relates to overtime payment. GWI said it is unfortunate that some of its staff “would have sought sympathy through the media on basically what is perceived to be an internal matter”. However, it said, scrutinizing the overtime will result in a three-day delay in the payment of salaries.
GWI said its decision on the matter is in keeping with its efforts to provide greater transparency in its management. It said managers are tasked with ensuring that overtime claims are justifiable and adequate and denies that the delay is not due to a lack of funds.
