Hundreds of children and adults attending the Guyana Defence Force’s (GDF) Fun Day at  Camp Ayanganna on Friday were afforded a close look at the GDF2, one of the two Bell 206 Ranger helicopters recently acquired by the force.

According to a GDF press release, Captain Byrne and other officers from the GDF Air Corps explained some of the operational aspects of the craft. Children registered their names for entry into a raffle which would see a lucky six being afforded the opportunity to experience a helicopter ride over parts of George-town.

Led by Lieutenant Colonel Enoch Gaskin, paratroopers of the 31 Special Forces Squadron wowed the crowd as they jumped out of the sky van at a height of 5,000 feet east of their landing site on the play ground.

Following the paratroopers’ display, some of the children were treated to helicopter flights over Georgetown.

The release further stated that after the helicopter rides, 30 soldiers who had recently concluded the army’s basic recruit course displayed superb martial arts skills. To loud applause, they demonstrated how those skills could be used in combat to defeat the enemy.

The GDF’s Co-op Credit Union also drew the winners in its raffle for the month of September. The drawing for the October raffle is scheduled for some time in December.
