The annual Boxing Day horse race meeting which is being organized and held at the Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) at Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, will have on board long serving sponsors Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) for this year’s event.
Betting fans are eagerly looking forward to this event, where the feature race will carry a first prize of $350,000 and a trophy, compliments of DDL, while the jockey who guides his steed across the finish line in the runner-up position will pocket $175,000, with $87,500 going to the third place finisher.
Intense competition can also be expected among jockeys Kumar Singh, Colin Ross, Michael Semple, Desmond Ramkissoon, Mark Nascimento and the apprentice 14-year-old Krishna Singh who has been working up a storm on the local horse racing scene.
Other events carded for the day are the three-years-old open which will be run over a distance of one mile, ‘F’ and Lower Class category to be run over six furlongs and carries a first prize of $200,000 and the ‘I’ and Lower Class that will also go for six furlongs with a first prize of $120,000.
Meanwhile, participants are advised that the day’s events will be covered under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA), where stipulates that if five horses are not entered for an event, no third place prize would be paid and there must be seven horses in the gates for a fourth place prize to be awarded.
Horses such as Little Panie, Showing Up, Great Memories, Great Romance, Perfect Drift, Miss Republic, Coconut Boy, Jumbo Joy, Sequin, Kavinci and Spin and Squeeze are expected to supply fans with a day full of excitement.
Entries for this event closes on 17th December and persons desirous of entering their charges can do so through the chairman of the KMTC, Retired Chief Justice Cecil Kennard or Roopnarine Matadial.
