Dead is Fiesal Ferose Ali called Robert of Lot 179 Mandela Avenue, Alexander Village.

The police are treating the incident as a robbery/murder since a computer system was discovered to be missing. A bloodied hammer and a knife were removed from the scene
Ali had been well known in political circles and had been associated with several smaller political parties before becoming a candidate for the PNCR-1G in the 2006 polls.

A maid who worked at the home and a man claiming to be Ali’s friend, who had made the gruesome discovery were detained for questioning. While the woman was later released after submitting a statement to investigators this newspaper could not ascertain up to late yesterday afternoon if the man was still in custody.

Stabroek News was told that Ali, who recently started selling huge wooden carvings, sustained a laceration to the back of the head and stab wounds to the left arm and in the region of his heart.

Neighbours said that they heard nothing but opined that the killing occurred during a heavy downpour early yesterday morning. Relatives and close friends are convinced that the deadly act was carried out by someone close to Ali as he does not open his door to strangers at night.

Speaking to Stabroek News, the maid, Meena De Souza said she arrived as customary just before 9 am to do her daily chores but found the back door pushed in and the padlock on but not locked.

She said that usually her employer would be sitting on his veranda with a teacup reading the newspaper or having a friendly chat with someone and would open the backdoor for her when she arrived.

De Souza said that believing nothing was amiss she removed the padlock and entered the house, which is at the top of a two-storey building, where she met Ali’s mentally challenged brother.

She said that she noticed that the door to the man’s bedroom was pushed in and when she asked the brother who also has a speech impediment where he was, he pointed to the door.

The woman told this newspaper that the computer was missing and some computer items which were stored in boxes were scattered on the floor.

Still, she said this did not arouse her suspicions since according to her, Ali would move the computer to different parts of his house.

She said that he had told her that whenever his door was closed that meant he was asleep and she should not wake him up.

“And then too I din think nothing of that. I seh maybe is the lil rain that fall mek he stay in lil late”, De Souza added.

About fifteen minutes after her arrival, she recounted, a man who said he was Ali’s friend came calling for him. She said she told him that he was asleep but the man insisted that he had to speak with Ali.

She said that the man entered the house and went to the bedroom door followed closely by Ali’s brother.

According to De Souza, moments later the man shouted for her to come saying “Ali like he sick and can’t move”. She said that when she went up she saw her employer lying on his back with his hands up in the air and his mouth and eyes were open.

The room was dark due to the curtains, so they did not know that he was stabbed to death. Neighbours arrived after responding to their alarm. Police were subsequently informed.

When Stabroek News arrived at the home, police were conducting investigations. Huge blood stains were evident on the bed sheet and pillow cases.

Persons close to the man said that they did not know of any problems between him and anyone.

Ali’s National Republican Party – a splinter of the United Republican Party – had joined with several other parties to form the National Front Alliance (NFA). The NFA in turn banded together with the PNCR to contest the 2006 general elections as the PNCR-1G.
