National Race Walk champion Rudolph Mitchell chalked up his 83rd successive win last Sunday when he captured the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) ‘Walk for Life’, which was organized by the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club (CSTC).
The race which got started at 06:30hrs outside the Prairie International Hotel, Coverden, East Bank Demerara and proceeded to the Soesdyke Methodist Church for the finish, saw Jeremy Cornelius and Debidyal Harold occupying the second and third position behind Mitchell.
On the distaff side, Donna Ramkissoon placed first ahead of Tameka Gonsalves while Glaysom Ralph won the junior category from Kwesi Oudit.
Prizes for the event were donated by the GOA while refreshments were supplied by Continental Agencies Limited. Participants also distributed HIV/AIDS information material, posters and even condoms along the route.
According to a press release, CSTC committee member Natasha Harry who expressed thanks to the GOA for sponsoring the race, urged the participants to continue spreading the messages in the HIV/AIDS campaign so as to reduce the spread of the disease.
Meanwhile, CSTC will be holding a 10-lap race walk around the Soesdyke Circuit commencing at 06:30hrs in observance of Eid-ul-Adha on Monday, 8th December.
